DUCK & GOOSE HUNTING
DUCK & GOOSE HUNTING GUIDES
WESTERN MINNESOTA
The fall migration in western MN has become one of the nations best kept secrets. The perfect blend of habitat, potholes and large grain fields, provide everything they need in their migration south in the fall.
Our regular season (ducks and geese) open in late September and typically run through Thanksgiving or the last weekend in November. We shoot mainly local ducks (mallards, teal & wood ducks) around opener and for the first 10-14 days of the season. Our first waves of migrating mallards, wigeon, pintail and gadwall traditionally start to show up around the October full moon. Mid October through the end of November is traditionally the best time to be in western MN duck hunting.
We are not a guide service that sits and hunts the same spot day in and day out hoping that “today is the day”. We are a “spot and stalk” outfitter. This means our guides scout extensively today for tomorrows best hunt. That could be ducks, could be geese, and a lot of times, it’s both. We know that many hunters come out with a wish list of what they hope to harvest. We’ll do our best to accomodate that but ultimately it comes down to what our best hunt is going to be tomorrow based on what we find today.
Since we offer both field and water hunts on any given day you can expect to hunt from:
- A frame blinds
- Permanent blinds or pits
- Layout blinds (field and water hunts)
- Standing crops or natural cover
Our guides have an unlimited inventory of decoys to deploy for each and every situation, as they see fit.

EARLY SEASON GOOSE HUNTS
WESTERN MINNESOTA
Minnesota & South Dakota’s early season goose hunting starts in September and features 5 bird daily limit in MN and an 8 bird per day limit in SD! The goal of the early season goose hunts September is to harvest the geese that breed in the state.
September early season goose hunts start the first weekend in September and run 21 days in MN and 30 days in SD.
These hunts are almost exclusively dry field hunts conducted from layout blinds or A-frame blinds which are essentially a mobile, above ground pit.
The strong breeding population of Canada geese in MN & SD combined with an early push of Molt Migrant Canada geese (these are one and two year old non breeding birds that push into the state in September on NW winds) combine to produce some of our biggest shoots of the year.
Because of the location of our lodge in western MN we are able to guide in both western MN and eastern SD. We do have our hunters purchase licenses for both states. Every day our scouts scour the country side in MN and SD to put you on your best shoot for the next day regardless of which state it’s in! Our hunt radius is quite large in the early season. We scout extensively and hunt fresh fields every day.
In addition to our scouting efforts, our farmer/land owner commission rate is one of the highest in the Midwest, meaning we pay the most to get our customers in the best fields!
Our early season goose hunts are run in groups of 6-8 and a party of 7 is required to have a private hunt with just you and your guides.

PIT RENTALS
WESTERN MINNESOTA
We offer a limited number of dry field pit rentals (in ground pits, not in water pits) during the late season when the refuges are being used heavily. These are mainly conducte from late November through early December. These are 100% self guided, no decoys included. We bring you to the spot. Show you where the birds are coming from and you do the rest. You set the decoys. You do the calling.
